Description

New Hanover Township is a Township of the Second Class in Pennsylvania and is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors who are elected at large.  Most of the executive and legislative powers allocated to New Hanover Township in the "Laws Relating to Townships of the Second Class" code are vested with the Board of Supervisors..

The Board of Supervisors is empowered to appoint professionals to assist in the operation of the Township and to furnish advice and counsel on technical matters.   Additionally, the Board appoints all of the members of the various advisory boards and commissions as well as the Zoning Hearing Board and the Sewer Advisory Board / Authority.

The levying of Township taxes, and the appropriations to the various departments and subsidiary boards and commissions, is the responsibility of the Board of Supervisors.  During the months of November and December, public hearings are held for the purpose of reviewing the budget for the following year.  Residents are encouraged to attend these meetings, as well as any public meetings, and to review the proposed Township budget during that time.

The New Hanover Board of Supervisors holds meetings on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at the Municipal Building.  Work meetings are at 6:30 pm followed by the regular meeting.
