The first known deed issued in New Hanover was for 200 acres to Johannes Schneider, December 9, 1718. The site is now the Gilbertsville Golf Course.


Trash and Recycling

New Hanover Township Ordinances require that every home and business in the Township receives recycling and trash service by a hauler licensed in the Township.  Please inquire with the licensed hauler of your choice for specifications and to arrange for service.

Residents of communities receiving service through their homeowner's association will have collection by a hauler contracted by the  association.

2023 Montgomery County PA Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Events

Please note that drop-off is by appointment only and that preregistration is required.  In addition to the Montgomery Household Hazardous Waste event, Montco residents may also attend any Household Hazardous Waste event held in Bucks, Chester, and Delaware Counties and Philadelphia.

Electronic Waste
retrievr - previously known as Curb My Clutter - Montgomery County has partnered with retrievr, a convenient service that picks up clothing and electronics at your doorstep.  The service is free for all clothing and most electronics.  For more information about scheduling a pick up, convenience fees and earning rewards  visit

Montgomery County has not scheduled electronics collection events for 2023.

Document Shredding

We do not have any countywide document shredding events planned at this point.
